Henrico County Public School Parent Survey

Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) Strategic Plan has four overarching cornerstones for improvement: Safety and Wellness, Academic Growth, Equity and Opportunity, and Relationships. One way we measure progress in these areas is through annual student (grades 5-12), family, and staff surveys. These surveys will collect input on a broad range of topics related to the Strategic Plan, such as student-parent-staff relationships, equity and inclusiveness, and student engagement. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us!

Click https://henricoschools.us/surveys/ to access the survey.

The Henrico School Survey 2021 is available from March 8 to April 2.

Music In Schools and Youth Art Month

Music In Schools and Youth Art Month

During the month of March, we celebrate Music in our Schools and Youth Art Month. We are very lucky to have two wonderful teachers: Mrs. Wagner, our Music Teacher, and Mrs. Blakemore, our Art Teacher.

We have two of the best music and art teachers in the whole County! Please take a moment to thank them for all they do here at Varina Elementary.

Update to In-Person Learning Plan

Thursday, February 4th, the School Board will be meeting to discuss a possible return date to school for those students who elected to return for in-person learning.  If you wish to make a change in your decision (whether you want your child to change to virtual or come in-person), please reach out to Mr. Tyler at mhtyler@henrico.k12.va.us.  You only need to contact if you wish to make a change in your decision.  Do nothing if you wish to keep your same decision that you provided earlier in the school year.  Please understand changes to in-person will depend on available resources and classroom space.

National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week is being recognized February 1st – 5th!

It’s a week to highlight the critical and unique contributions of our school counselors here in Henrico County Public Schools. This includes, but is certainly not limited to, their role as school-based mental health providers, and the tremendous impact they have on helping our students with academic achievement, college and career readiness, social/emotional development, and mental/behavioral health.

Our school counselors are “All in for All Students,” so please take a moment to thank a school counselor next week!

Kindness Parade

National Kindness Week is coming up soon (February 8th-12th)! To prepare for this, we will have a Kindness Parade on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 3:30-4:30 in the VES bus loop.

At the Kindness Parade, students will be able to pick up their “Kindness Kit.” Inside their kits will be a kindness choice board, and various items that they will need to complete activities on the choice board (i.e. sticky notes, etc.). There will also be a copy of the school spirit days for Kindness Week, a kindness bookmark, and a special treat! If you are not able to drive through during this time, we will have the kits available in the office.
One really important thing they will receive in the Kindness Kit will be a couple popsicle sticks. These sticks will be able to be decorated by the students with kind messages. They can then turn them into the school by dropping them in a box out front. These sticks will be glued together to create a ‘Kindness Quilt’ that will be hung in the hall. We want to make sure as many students come out to the parade as possible, and that students turn in popsicle sticks. This is a school wide project and we want to make sure it represents all students at Varina. The end result should look something like this…
We look forward to seeing you at the Kindness Parade!!
